Unable to join a multi room / Room loading does not progress
If the download or update for gogh on Steam is paused or waiting, you may not be able to properly join a Multi Room.
Please open the "Downloads" page in the Steam client and check whether the gogh download has stopped.
If it is paused, please try selecting "Resume."
You may also be able to improve the issue by opening:
gogh → Properties → Updates
and enabling:
- Always keep this game updated
- Allow background downloads
Additionally, reducing the value of:
Steam Settings → In Game → More → Server Browser Pings / Minute
may help improve the issue.
When I Host, are my room settings carried over to users who Join?
- Time of day, weather, lighting, God Rays ON/OFF, playlist, music player play/pause state, and ambient sounds with their per-sound volumes are inherited as the initial settings. We recommend configuring your ideal audio environment before hosting.
- After joining, each user can change these locally. Changes are not synchronized within the Multiplayer Room.
- Guests can also see the host’s Kuroda42.
Does the Multiplayer Room remain after I leave?
- The room closes automatically when the number of people becomes zero, or when you host another Multiplayer Room.
- In Host settings, you can choose to automatically close the room when you leave.
- Once closed, the room no longer appears in the Multiplayer Room list and cannot be joined by ID.
- Even after a multi-room is closed, it may temporarily remain visible in the public room list.
In such cases, the room will be removed from the list when someone attempts to join it. - Users already inside when the room closes are not kicked out.
What is Focus Mode?
- Users with Focus Mode ON display a 🔥 icon.
- In Focus Mode, emotes are hidden and join/leave notifications are not shown.
What happens when I block a user?
- The blocked user’s avatar becomes invisible to you, and their emotes and join/leave notifications are hidden.
- Blocking is not disclosed to the other person. (They can still see your avatar.)
- The block remains in effect even after you leave the Multiplayer Room, unless you unblock the user.
Other users are not visible in a Multi Room
Other users' avatars may not be displayed correctly in a Multi Room due to network conditions or connection issues.
If this occurs, please check your network connection and try restarting the app or your device.
Favorited rooms are not displayed
If the room’s public setting is turned OFF, it will not appear in the favorites list even if it has been added to favorites.
If the room is not displayed, please check the room’s public settings.
You can still join the room by entering the Room ID.
Entered characters are not displayed correctly when typing a Room ID
The Room ID input field used for room searches is designed to display entered characters as “*”.
Because of this, it may appear as though the entered characters have changed, but if the Room ID was entered correctly, you can continue using the search as is.
If I change the BGM, ambient sounds, weather, lighting, etc. in a multi room, will it affect other users?
No, it will not.
These settings are applied individually for each user and do not affect other participants.
Please feel free to customize them according to your preference.
I can’t share streaming in a multiplayer Room
Not supported. Please use streaming in single-player.
Multiplayer Room suddenly crashes
If Steam’s scheduled maintenance overlaps, the multi-room feature may become unstable or connections may be disconnected.
Time (JST): Wednesdays around 5:00–7:00
Typically corresponds to Tuesdays 13:00–15:00 (PT).
Please try again after some time.
Unable to interact in a Multi Room / Communication errors occur
If the room host has an unstable network connection, users may become unable to interact in a Multi Room or encounter communication errors.
In particular, rooms with a large number of drawing items may be more affected, as they increase network load.
Please check the host's network connection and consider reducing the number of drawing items placed in the room.
Rooms Don't Appear
Due to Steam API limitations, there is a limit to the number of Multi Rooms that can be displayed for a single player.
As a result, public rooms, your own room, and favorited rooms may not appear in the room list.
If you want to join a specific room, please use its Multi Room ID.
About Blocking, Kicking, Reporting, and Penalties
To keep multiplayer safe and comfortable, this game includes:
Blocking, Kicking, Room Reporting, and Penalty systems.
Note: These rules and systems may change without prior notice.
What is Blocking?
Blocking is a feature that hides a specific user on your own screen.
- Blocked users will no longer be visible to you
- Join/leave notifications and emotes from them will not be shown
- You and the blocked user will no longer be able to enter each other’s rooms
- Blocking someone does not apply any penalty to them
👉 It’s a self-defense tool to avoid people you don’t want to interact with.
What is Kicking?
Kicking is a feature that removes a specific user from the current Multiplayer Room.
- A kick is executed either by the host’s vote, or by multiple votes from non-host users
- A kicked user cannot re-enter that room
- Repeated kicks can lead to penalties
- The host cannot be kicked(If the host is kicked, it’s a bug. We implemented countermeasures in Update 2.9.0.)
👉 It’s a tool to keep order in the current room.
What is Room Reporting?
Room reporting is a feature that lets you report rooms that appear to violate the guidelines.
- Reports are made per room
- Rooms that receive many reports may receive penalties
- If you repeatedly submit inappropriate reports in a short time, the impact of your reports will be reduced
👉 It’s a way to notify the dev team about problematic rooms.
What is a Penalty?
A penalty is a measure that temporarily restricts access to multiplayer features.
Restrictions are applied step-by-step, for example:
- ⚠️ A warning message is shown
- 🚫 You can no longer host new rooms
- ⛔ You can no longer use multiplayer at all
Penalties are:
Automatically lifted after you play for a period of time without further issues.
👉 It’s a system to keep the multiplayer space safe.
For a Safe and Comfortable Experience
- Feel free to use Block—there’s no issue for either side. However, please note that it may be harder to unblock someone after they leave the room.
- Use Kick and Report only when it truly feels necessary
- If you follow the guidelines, you generally won’t receive any penalties
Thank you for helping us keep multiplayer safe and welcoming 🌱
Regarding Recording and Posting on Social Media in Multiplayer Rooms
Public multiplayer rooms are intended to be open to an unspecified number of gogh users. Therefore, recording (including screenshots and videos) and posting to social media are generally considered permitted.
However, if the host has clearly stated their own rules within the room — such as “No Recording” or “No Social Media Posting” — we recommend respecting those rules as much as possible.
If you do not wish to be recorded or shared on social media, please turn OFF the public setting and use the option that allows entry by ID only.
About Host-Specific Rules
Rules established by the host are not part of the official gogh Terms or Guidelines and are considered a matter of user etiquette. For any disputes related to such rules, we ask users to resolve them through mutual communication.
